April has been making noises about swinging by to "borrow" the baby...not that I'm making accusations or anything. It just seems like an odd coincidence, is all. ;)
Brittany Birch isn't BAD - they're nice needles as these things go. But bamboo needles are better for botanical reasons I won't get into unless someone really wants to know. And Crystal Palace needles are made out of bamboo.
Bamboo is nice, it's light, smooth, easy to use... but if you use the needle a lot, the needle tip splits and snags whatever you are working on (ask me how I know this...)
I swear it wasn't me !!!!! I'm a metal type of gal. Give me Knitpicks YEAH for the new variety :P But I'll ask my girls if they ran off with it, it wasnt pink was it, my almost 3 yr old loves pink knitting needles, grrr.
Okay, so watch out for splitting. I seem to be knitting tighter on the bamboo - which is really good because normally I have to really fiddle with the needle size to get the right gauge. I am aware of the environmental reasons, and would love to hear more about them. I'm considering wood flooring in my house and am leaning towards bamboo for the same reasons.
I like the Brittany because they're just a little rougher--it makes traveling socks less likely to lose their needles when I pull them out at stoplights...but bamboo is very nice too...
Yeah, I have a 3.25 (metric, I'm Canadian eh?) from Bates and it only came with 4. Now that I am working with 5 I realize how working with only 4 is annoying.
I'm currently a stay at home mother, freelance writing on my off time, wondering how I became part of the ten thousand year old tradition of raising the kids while creating textiles.
I grew up in NE Ohio dairy country, married a sailor, lived in Hawaii ten years, lived in SC for five years, then moved back to culture shock and confusion.
Nothing but good times ahead.

Pfft, no more yarn for you Sheepie.
You couldn't *give* me a Brittany Birch, it's Crystal Palace or nuffin'.
I wish I'd known how nice bamboo is BEFORE I'd bought all these stupid birch needles.
Now Bells needs to eat them all so I can replace them with better.
Send 'em over! :-)
Not me, Mom, I'm knitting with doll needles.
After the last thrift store hit, I now have 18 size 5 dpns. All aluminum.
is brittany birch good? I just started my first sock and it is on crystal palace b/c that is what the LYS handed me.

Go into the botanical reasons, Julie!
Its not lost. It was sucked into the void with lost socks.
Not that I've lost a knitted sock. Worn holes into the yes, but not lost.

Wait a minute...after a certain size, don't they only come with 4?
Depends on the company. I've got a set of five size sevens from Crystal Palace, and I know Brittany usually does sets of five.
Susan Bates and the like do drop down to sets of fours at larger sizes, though.
