Socks fixed.

Sorta. (Check out that toe shaping. I'm pretty sure I know how I did that.)

I was going to finish these socks as-is and give them to someone with small feet, but I've been brooding the last couple days, and damn it, I WANT THOSE SOCKS. So I dug out the books I have about sock knitting (the advantage to buying any knitting book that strikes my fancy - I have refrence material on things I've never knit before, at odd hours of the day and night). After some measuring and sock examination and more brooding, I think the problem is two-fold. The heel flaps are a little too shallow (maybe a half inch, or a centimeter), and the BIG problem, I didn't pick up enough stitches around the edge of the heel flap for the gusset. I did the usual and picked up in every slipped stitch, which comes out to one stitch every other row. Because this is stranded color, it sucks in (the row-to-stich ratio is off; fewer stitches per row) and I think I need to be picking up EVERY stitch of the heel flap. So...

Back to square one. Or rather, square two. I've got this one ripped back to the heel flap. Time to go rip out the other one. (The one drawback to knitting both socks at once. They both get screwed up the same way.)

Sock knitting is one of those things that I do, but don't fully understand. Basically I'm just stabbing the heel flap repeatedly with a crochet hook until I have enough stitches (or something like it).

Yours will be really pretty when pretty done though! And will certainly fit better than mine.

Wow. I would have just given them away to someone with smaller feet--(weeping copiously--such a GORGEOUS colorway...) I'm so impressed you had the wherewithal to frog all of that sock!

Ouch.
I am proud of you that you frogged. Just imagine how proud you'll be of those awesome socks that fit. :)

The day has yet to dawn that I don't frog every, single, FREAKING project at least once. I'm totally with you, and I'd have done the same thing - that yarn is beautiful, and you make me more and more determined to knit those socks.

Ouch.

I'm with Sheepish Annie - having only knit on pair of socks in my life, I just picked up the stitches that looked easy to pick up, picked up a few extras around the top part to then close any holes, and knit happily along. I didn't see any trouble with the finished pair, but I'm not wearing them (a friend is).

Can't wait to see the finished product! Beautiful colors.

I want to know what in HELL is in the mug? It looks...interesting.

And what is FROG? I'm not new to knitting, but I'm a closet knitter. No one in my closet has ever frogged anything.

"To frog" means to rip-it, rip-it, rip-it out. And it's one of the nice things about knitting, compared to tatting!
