Bloody, buggering, pig-fucking hell.

Yesterday was a bad day of epic proportion.

First I fell in the parking lot of Target, badly enough that all the people standing around went "Oooooooh!" and ran over to help me up. (Very nice people. That part was okay.) I smashed the crap out of my patellar tendon on my left knee, and scraped the crap out of my right knee. While tearing out both knees of my jeans. So now I'm gimping around the house like I'm eighty, which is SO not fun when you're dealing with a two-year-old who likes to run up, slam into your legs, and give you a hug. If my knee is still bothering me Friday when I see my doc, I'll ask for an x-ray. Otherwise, I'm going to wait and see what happenes. Nothing less than a sucking chest wound is getting me into an ER on a weekend. (I should be safe unless I trip and fall on a knife, which I wouldn't say is impossible, with the way things have been going.)

Then I woke up this morning and realized that the scrape was infected, which led to scrubbing it out with soap and water. This is known as 'road rash', by the way, road scrape with dirt and gravel in it. When I broke my hand, I had occasion to have my road rash treated in the ER, which meant a nurse scrubbed it out with a nail brush and betadine. I remember that for the duration of the srubbing, it hurt worse than my multpile fractures that needed pinned together. But it never got infected.

But I digress. Where was I?

Right. Whining about my bad day.

Since I was immobile, I thought I might as well work on the green sweater thing. So I did. I fucked it up. I'm going to finish knitting the gusset, then go back and fix it, which will mean reworking about forty columns of stitches with a crochet hook. (Sometimes being a skilled knitter means knowing how to fix crap. Damn it.)

Then I realized that Knit Picks sent me the wrong damn yarn in my last order. It was supposed to be superwash, and it was regular merino. I can't knit baby clothes with regular merino. No new mother needs to deal with handwashing anything.

I started digging through the stash, finding something suitable, and in the process, knocked over a jar full of knitting stuff - needles, hooks, stitch markers, scissors, etc - and it went EVERYWHERE in the yarn closet and I will probably still be finding damn stitch markers when we move out.

That's when I gave up and went to bed.

I'm going to just sit here now, and try not to move. I think this concludes my whining.

I really hope today is better. (It would have to be, right?) Good luck with the knee. I did that while very many months pregnant and freaked out about the infection possibility and scrubbed it out myself. Yeah, it hurts. Feel better soon, I hope.

As my utterly bizarre boyfriend would say, "Oh, teh noes!!!" It sounds like a horrific weekend down there for you. Good luck to you finishing it out without further injury or destruction.

Geez! Hide under the covers and don't come out till the commotion stops. That's what I do on days like that. Hope your knees feel better soon.

ooo Patellar tendon, that's rough. That tendon is the result of most of your quads, so injuring it hurts like hell when you try to do pretty much anything.

I just hope you didn't damage your ACL, PCL or meniscus.

Good luck healing!

Here's hoping that your luck has changed.

The only thing worse than falling is falling in front of witnesses who all say, "Ohhhhh!" I think that your instincts are correct and that you should just lie low for a little bit. Let the bad mojo pass you by...

Here's hoping that the knee is OK. I'll be thinking good thoughts for you.

Here's hoping tomorrow's a better day and all the evil karma went somewhere else while you were sitting still. Feel better!

Ouch! I'd say you'd had your share of mishaps for a while - and all within 24 hrs! Hope things are going better.

Oooh, definitely time to sit still in the middle of the room and not touch anything. Hate it when the bad luck earths itself on everything you touch! (Shouldn't it show up as colored static sparks, like in the movies?)

The worst fall I ever took was on slanted, iced-over concrete, that ironically led to the handicapped ramp.

unless it will conflict with other medications, i suggest my favorite remedy:

rum (or vodka or gin) and diet ginger ale or other caffeine-free pop, take prn (no, there's no missing letter. my nurse-under-construction daughter tells me that means "as needed.")

nope, it won't stave off infection or mend the tendon any faster, but it sure helps with sleeping through the related miseries.

i rediscovered the value of small amounts of liquid painkiller when vioxx was taken off the market while i was healing from a knee replacement. obviously, using this remedy to excess may result in even worse injuries, but you don't strike me as one given to excess in anything except, maybe, fiber-related activities. and that's a good thing.

feel better soon!

Julie,

I am so sorry that you had a such a horrific day . . . on the other hand, your description of it made me smile . . . and I'm sorry for that too.

I have to tell you that your final solution was probably the best, although I do find putting on a clown nose and cracking a beer tends to work really well too!

Hope your knees heal quickly and well.

You haven't mentioned how you're doing now. I hope you are healing well from all this, Julie!
