Resolution, schmesolution.

I swore I would not dye yarn on weekends.

Mostly that was to give myself a break during the week, but since I'm coming off a vacation and being sick, to hell with it. I dyed yarn.

I also thought I was only going to post yarn once a month to my etsy shop, but bugger that. I'm going to post it as I finish it. Unfortunately most of the lot shown above is special order. But there is one thing you guys can look forward to:

Easter egg rainbow.

Done entirely with kid's Easter egg dye in the little pellets (I'm now gleefully anticipating the after-Easter sales - a skein's worth of dye for a buck? I'm all over it). I'd like it more if I didn't know it took eight hours to produce. But the colors are turning out really nice. In part they're soofuckingbright because I'm adding vinegar in an attempt to SPEED UP THE DAMN DIP-DYE PROCESS. But that's okay. Bright is good.

The sock is still ALMOST done. But I don't think there will be enough yarn for a second sock. Boo.

Tomorrow's entertainment? Experimental dyeing with food, Mermaid Tail, and another special order. AND MAYBE I'LL FINISH THE BLEEDING SOCK.

I'm making progress with the TechnoBlah sock and will post on my website as soon as I finish the first sock. It is knitting up well and the colours are great.

gorgeous! You rock. Keep in mind you were away, so you can break the rules this once and dye on the weekends. PLUS, with husbeast about, dyeing should be easier, right? No chasing Baby and Cat. He can do it.

since it's blue, does that make it a blue-blooded sock? (don't answer that...)

I've been waving my skein of Remains of the Day at people and saying, "That was done with FOOD DYE...can you believe that?"

Oooh, pretty colors.. I've been considering getting into dyeing since you first started talking about it (listen to me, not even knitting a year and considering this). Maybe I should be buying a crockpot so as not to freak out the muggles to test out post-Easter sale dyes.

Don't feel bad about the resolution. After all the resolution was to ensure you had time to do everything you wanted to do, right? You've been away and have been knitting but not dyeing during that whole time.

Bright colors totally work. Sorry about the allergy haze, all that pollen would just kill me.

After reading about your dye jobs and your Knitty piece I have started dyeing my own. I am haveing trouble with the Wiltons reds. I get this grainny stuff that will not desolve. the color turns out redish brown and I need red. got any tips for me on this. I used boiling water like you said... Thanks

Sounds to me like you got old dye. It does age, and not prettily. Stores don't realize this (or pretend not to) and sell it when it's not at it's best, too. You've got two options: Buy new, or get the McCormick's liquid red food coloring and work with that. It comes in good-sized glass bottles of red, yellow, green, and blue. Or the little squeezy-bottle pack of four. I've used it and it's a nice cherry red.

Thank you. I got this little 4 pack. other colors seem ok. I will try the other too. Thanks for answering my question... you rock!
