How about that knitting?

Yeah. Let's talk about knitting. Remember the steeked jacket? Mine looks like this.

Oh, and also like this:

Maybe we all should get hot on this project and finish 'em? At the least, I want to finish mine and write up the rest of the directions. I feel bad that at the moment it's an unfinished project, in terms of how-to.

But first I gotta finish the Mystery Knit. I did not have to unravel the sleeves, just tinker a bit. You'll understand when you see the design. (If Amy does not accept it for Knitty I will make it available here, for free. It's kind of a practice run at pattern writing before I start selling them.) Anyway, it's coming along. It's possible it could be done in a week or so if I get myself going.

Then there's the lone aqua sock. It's sitting in the middle of my dining room table to remind me how lonely it is, every time I eat. Poor, poor sock.

Oh, and remember this?

I've been working on this again, off and on as a break when I'm tired of the Mystery. It's still not quite done, but you can see it's getting pretty long. That's an eighteen inch (uh... forty cm? thereabouts?) knitting needle it's on, for scale. I'm knitting it on slightly smaller needles than suggested so it'll be denser and smaller (and hopefully use a little less yardage). But it's still gonna stretch like a mofo when it's blocked. My toes are in there too, for scale. I have funny looking piggers.

Have I mentioned there's a family wedding at the beginning of June I should really knit lace for? That side of the family appreciates handmade gifts - one of the cousins FRAMED a doily I knit her and hung it in her dining room like art work. I also hear lots of variations of "I keep it on the table/dresser that's been in the family for five generations." So yeah, I need to knit something. At least I'll use something from The Box (the one that contains nine miles of crochet cotton).

Speaking of crochet cotton, would you knit a sweater out of it on size two needles, if it was cool enough? Or am I insane to even think it?

The husbeast is watching Deadliest Catch. I'm getting seasick just looking at the TV.

Would I knit a sweater on size 2 out of crochet cotton?
Probably would I'm just that weird.
The shawl is looking great.

Okay...I've seen sweater patterns knit out of crochet cotton. They look wonderful. I'm not that crazy, but I get the feeling you might be...

I wouldn't knit a sweater on size 2 needles, unless it was a baby sweater--I've knit those on size 3s.

I would be mightily impressed by anyone who did, though!

You know what? I think I would. Right project, right frame of mind at the time, I'd do it. I love delicate knitting.

I'm going to post about the jacket tonight. I reckon i'm about three rows from the armholes but I'm gonna post a photo tonight to see what people think of the length.

I...might knit a sweater on 2s out of crochet cotton. I'd have to really really love the pattern, and I would also have to free myself from having any timeframe in mind for finishing it. But I would consider it.

--just got done watching Deadliest Catch ourselves. That show stresses me out. However, I love crab and it gives me a good perspective to see what horrors and joys go into getting it onto my table.

Speaking of knitting something on size 2s, has anyone tried the new "lace" knitting needles? So far, I've only heard of Addis, and they're being touted as something new. Are they that different? Enquiring minds want to know. ;)

Size 2 needles? Sure, why not? If it's a great sweater and guaranteed to actually look good at the end...

I love how the swirls on the Steeked Jacket seem to be curling up to fit in that basket.
And how nice you have relatives that really appreciate your talent!
AND my cousin worked on an ALaskan crab boat back in the 70s, but at the time I had NO idea what that entailed!

nina- I am dying to try the new Addi lace needles, but my LYS won't be getting them in for a bit. I know some people LOVE them!

I wouldn't knit a sweater on size 2 out of crochet cotton, but only because I wouldn't dare wear it. (Oily skin, sweat, deodorant and hard water.)

Size twos... Sure. It won't take much longer to work than the threes I'm used to for sweaters and my family has an over abundance of crochet cotton. One question though, not that I'm rockin the Knit from your Stash thing, but one can justify knitting from the stash that will one day be inherited, right?

Great projects! Listen... don't know if you like to knit with others, but on Thursdays at 9am at the Children's Museum downtown it's "Moms knit while kids play in the museum with the staff." It's before the place opens, so they have the joint to themselves. There's only about 3 of us. COME! I want to see those WIPs in person.

Heck yes I would! I actually have a child's size short sleeve jacket thing from Garnstudio started on either 1's or 2's. It may take forever but it's worth it in the end!

Oh and I officially have the longest word verification ever in existence.

I'd knit a lace sweater out of crochet cotton on size 2's - but that's because it would take so long, I'd need something to entertain me. Stockingknit on size 2s? No way, nu-uh, no how, never. I'd never finish it.

Ah but you know what is really cool? Have a look at Wikipedia's entry for knitting. Then look at the notes. Note 4 is Julie!

Ah, yes, the notorious Wikipedia entry. I suppose I should be flattered or feel famous, but all it really does is convince me that Wikipedia sucks.

They should have read my sources and footnoted THEM, not me. I'm not an expert. I wrote a summary. Not the same thing.

A sweater on size 2 needles? From crochet cotton? Eeek. My first thought is the infamous words of the Monty Python gang: "Run away, run away!"

But I guess if I were a fast knitter, looking for a new kind of challenge, it could be an interesting experience. I'm trying to imagine the heat factor. I always think of cotton as cool & summertime-y, but on such tiny needles, would it end up being very warm?

"mofo", huh? Nice! :)
