THIS was a shock.
A while back we asked the Goober why she stood so close to the TV. She said so she could see it. That sent up some red flags, so when we found a decent optometrist in the area, we made an appointment.
The verdict? The Goober is "unusually nearsighted for her age". In other words, "DAMN! Do you see how bad her vision is?"
The good news is, she's not favoring one eye over the other, and she has no other eye problems. Since the husbeast was wearing glasses like the bottoms of Coke bottles by the time he started kindergarten, so this wasn't really a huge shock. To anyone. The Goober's opinion seems to be "right, time for my glasses!" Everyone else in the family wears them, why shouldn't she?
More updates and better photos (this was taken on my cell phone), when the actual glasses get here. We only ordered them today.

Oh man, I soooo remember that feeling of, "Now I'm grown up enough to wear glasses like mom and dad!" Although I was in second grade when that happened, so... 6?
I remember when I got glasses. Fourth grade. I remember putting them on and thinking, "I can SEE!"
The Goob's reaction should be funny.
OMG, she looks SO cute. I could die of the cuteness.
Lucky girl, to have her parents so observant. I was in 3rd (!!) grade before I had my first coke-bottle glasses. Before I got them, I was always baffled by classtoom discussions; I had no idea what they were talking about. After, I found there was writing on the board! Actual stuff written on the board! That was the first I knew that the board was there for something.
How cute is she! Better to treat her nearsightedness now so she doesn't suffer in school (coming from another nearsighted girl).
I remember being soooo excited about by first pair of glasses (of course they came at 18 - too longsighted for close reading, apparently)...
But is it just me, or does that kid look even more intelligent with those frames on?
My daughter also was incredibly near sighted and we didn't catch it this early.
She looks so cute in her glasses!
Oh gees... she looks so proud...
And may she have a knack for keeping them intact and keeping track of them!
She is adorable!!
wow - how cute is that grin! So glad you were able to understand she couldn't see and take care of it now. My glasses were at age 7 and I was astonished that you could see the leaves on the trees! Who knew? I knew trees had leaves, but that you could actually SEE them?
My mother was upset when she found out how bad my vision was.
My nephew was around 18 months old when he got his glasses, and about 3 1/2 when Emily was born, and she was the first baby he'd really had much to do with. Not long after I got home from hospital, his mum brought him round to meet the baby. He had a little cuddle, then whispered to my sister, "When's she get her glasses?"
He never looked as cute as the Goob in them, tho :)
She looks cute. And also very proud.
Little pink glasses! They're perfect and will coordinate perfectly with the pwincess dwess.
Ditch any feelings of guilt!! Our eldest was eight years when we got her checked. We suddenly noticed that she lunged forward every time there were subtitles on the TV. School should have picked it up - the children all had a sight test, but she was sitting close to the chart as she waited in the queue, so she memorised the chart. Ever after, we have referred to sight tests as "Having your eyesight measured" - ie, not pass or fail, as she had assumed it was.
Oh, so pink and pretty! Imagine the worlds that will open up when she can see. She's learned so fast with bad eyesight you and the Husbeast better strap in because once she gets her glasses, this girl's gonna fly!
oh how lovely! I saw this on twitter but now know the story. She looks like a little old lady, in the cutest way!
What a cutie! Speaking as someone who has worn glasses since she was born, just about (with a brief respite in second grade when, for some reason, I didn't need them), welcome to the club, Goober!!
