The moving plan.

Since everyone seems curious.

We're packing up our house and putting it in storage, then staying in NE Ohio with the in-laws while the hub finds a job. Then we move on from there; we hope to only be with the in-laws for a month or so, which is normal for us when we moved from one duty station to another with the Navy. (Pack up house in Norfolk and put it on boat; stay for month in Ohio; go to Hawaii just as furniture arrives. You get the idea.)

So we'll be in Ohio for a month or so, and after that, we've no idea, but we hope to stay in the NE United States to be near both our families. (My family is also in NE Ohio and my father is in bad health.) Ideally I want to move to one of the smaller towns outside Columbus, go to Ohio State, and eventually work somewhere in that area. There's enough high-tech industry in that area for the husbeast to get hired at, that it's a reasonable goal.

Anyone near Ohio need an NDT inspector?

Am I right in thinking that the Navy pays for this last move? Or is that just the state dept folks...?

Right, by "pays for" I meant, handle all the logistics (so you don't have to). Not just the money part.

Oh WAY COOL. I would love for you to be near Columbus. I've so enjoyed your blog over the last couple of years that I'd be thrilled to finally get to meet you.

I can also recommend a really fantastic acupuncturist (DH) if you need one. X-D

Only a thousand pounds? That doesn't sound like very much. Do you pay the overage or the whole thing? I hate hate hate moving. I couldn't wait for my husband to get out of the Navy.

Might be helpful for you, but you're probably more like me, and have moved so many times that it's routine. Never hurts to learn some new tips, though, especially since you're moving with the Goober this time.

Oh, Julie, since you are putting your stuff into storage, another company you might want to consider would be Smartmove. Its website is http://www.gosmartmove.com/.

When I move my new law school grads, who need storage, I send them to Smartmove. The first 28 days of storage is free. The cost after is $2/day per vault. The disadvantage is that you don't have access to the vault(s) as you would a storage facility, but everything is packed only once. In the past two years, everyone I have sent to Smartmove have loved the convenience. We also have them hire local movers to do the pack/loads and delivery outs once a destination address has been determined.

Interconex also does a domestic containerization but I am not sure of their costs. They are doing a comparison thing for me . . .
