Debbie New saves the day.

Remember these?

If not, they're two (duh) squares from the Afghan Square Jacket in "Unexpected Knitting" by Debbie New. They've been in the ol' stash for about three, four years now. I've completely dumped the idea of deadline knitting for the hundredth time (what the fuck is up with that? I keep setting myself stupid deadlines and then reminding myself I knit for fun. COULD I JUST REMEMBER I KNIT FOR FUN IN THE FIRST PLACE? HMMMMMM?) and am knitting whatever in hell I feel like. Today, and for the next little while, I feel like knitting curlicues. (Though with luck I might wedge in some sock knitting so I can have a pair for the end of Sock Roulette at the end of this month. Not killing myself, though. Nope. Not. Done with that.)

So anyway. Back to the novel concept of knitting as fun. Same revelation I've had fifty times before this. Next time, someone hit me in the head with a wooden #35 needle as required, huh?

I am pleased to report that today I finally got a shot of the Goob I've wanted to get for a year now. Unfortunately I took it in the bathroom, as light slanted through the window, but I got it.

See the hair over her head? Looks kinda like a nimbus in the photo, but what it is, is a fluff of curly hair that grows STRAIGHT UP from her hair line and waves over her head as she moves around. It's nearly invisible most of the time, but today the light was right.

Her hair's even sillier than you thought.

And she waited for you to come back with the camera?? She's better trained than you thought! Love the hair. Just think, more embarrassing photos for an upcoming important birthday! Isn't that what parents are for?

What a grand mom you are! I thought the only possible response to an errant lock like that was to nail it down with a barette and lots of gel. The goob is a lucky, lucky girl. Let your freak fluff fly!

Is she crying?

It kind of looks like an antena to me.

Oh, oh, oh! Goob hair! Lovely! Too bad she'll grow older & try to tame it. (My word is "derment". That sounds so close to being an actual word....)

It's AMAZING! I LOVE IT. But I'm glad I don't have to comb it!

My youngest daughter has straight hair except for a patch in that same spot that is curly. It started a little while ago (she's 19) and it's driving her crazy. The hairstylist told her to put some product on it and hope it's just hormonal.....

I had curly hair like the Goober's when I was little. I had scarlet fever and lost most of the curl in my hair. Now, it's wavy in the humidity and what I wouldn't give to have those curls back.

Hah, my hair is at least that curly, but fortunately long enough that it hangs most of the time. My brother, on the other hand, has his cut short, so it's kinda like a short afro, and his curls DO stick up in some places. Fun to play with. ^_^

Thank you for responding to my email so promptly, it was really helpful!

That's not silly hair, that's just plain gorgeous!
