Yep. I believe you get what you're supposed to. That's one wasn't THE one. Have you signed up with a realtor? Does he/she send you homes to your email? I viewed hundreds! online through my portal that the realtor set up for me.
Well, that sucks, but look at it this way, you don't have to clean up someone else's mess. At least not THAT someone else's mess. Your house is out there, don't fret.
I don't know anything about the US housing market now, but having worked in the UK housing market for 7.5 years (conveyancing secretary) right now in the UK there's far more houses than buyers, and there should be something better down the line a little.
Do you have anything like the UK Land Registry, where you can look up the owners of properties? Or maybe try a mini mailshot "I am looking for a house like yours if you're thinking of moving" type thing along the same road? I'm all for cutting out the estate agents (realtors) whereever possible!
Bad roof and a whole lot of mess? Consider it a blessing in disguise that it's sold. You probably got off easy. Even if you didn't, you'll never know for sure, so you might as well believe you did if it makes you feel better.
I have a history of getting all attached to one house as The One and then being devastated if something happens and I don't get it, but what I learned on my last house hunt is that the world is full of possibilities. There are lots of houses out there that will work. May you find a really good one!
I'm currently a stay at home mother, freelance writing on my off time, wondering how I became part of the ten thousand year old tradition of raising the kids while creating textiles.
I grew up in NE Ohio dairy country, married a sailor, lived in Hawaii ten years, lived in SC for five years, then moved back to culture shock and confusion.
Nothing but good times ahead.

It wasn't Your House. Your House is still waiting for you out there. And now you have definite ideas about what you want, what you need.

Talk about stress, hang in there and the right house is still in your future! Good Luck house hunting!
That sucks, but it wasnt meant to be. The house you want is out there waiting for you to find it. You never know what will turn up tomorrow.
It's coming. You'll find a better one--you know it.
