If it isn't one thing...

...it's five other things.

Yesterday a friend of mine passed away. He was an on-line friend, but I'd known him about a year. Sweet guy. We talked about video games and movies and cooking and food. He was five years younger than I am.

After being in shock most of the day, I got a call from my sister-in-law. My brother had a heart attack yesterday. At I type, he's edging up on twelve hours in surgery. From the sounds of it, he's having quadruple bypass surgery.

So, I'm huddling down with some zombie knitting (nearly done with this pair of socks), resisting the urge to eat my own weight in chocolate. (I've lost three pounds and I'd rather not ruin that with a binge.)

More later when I'm coherent.

AAAAAAAAH! PASS THE NUTTY BARS AND COOKIES!

I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm sending good vibes and good wishes for your brother. There's a reason humans like to eat chocolate....

Sorry to hear about your loss. And about your brother. What a shocking thing to happen to someone so young. Chin up duck.

Hugs. Just a little chocolate won't hurt. Eat it standing up. That way the calories won't stick.

Oh no what sad news about your friend. Hoping your brother gets through his surgery and recovers quickly. A little chocolate would take the edge off but knitting will probably help more.

**HUGS**

broken cookies have no calories - everyone knows that. I assume broken chocolate is the same. All the calories fell out!

Wish I could do something!

Virtual hugs. Virtual chocolate (Moonstruck milk chocolate with chili in it.) Strength and health to your brother, and may he be attended by careful, thoughtful nurses who know how to figure dosages accurately. Blessings on you SIL. Hope her support system is up and running. You have us, the Goober and the husbeast, so your safety net is in place.

It's hard when someone your own age or younger dies. It seems that much harder somehow. I hope your brother comes through the surgery with flying colors. They'll have him up and moving around within hours. It's amazing what modern medicine is able to do.

Dark chocolate is actually good for you. Think of it as an investment in your own health.

I'm sorry about your friend, and I'm sending positive energy for your brother. I'm confident he'll pull through okay.

Hug your daughter - it'll make you feel better.

I don't know how far away your brother is; it must be hard, not being able to rush to his side.

Thank heaven that he had time to get medical attention!

Bad things never come one at a time; they just don't. And learning (again) that we are mortal is a blow every single time. The knowledge never seems to stick, somehow.

Knit on, all right. Wise words.

Yeah, it sucks when on-line friends go. It's hard to explain to my mom how I can miss somebody I never met IRL.

(We had a guy* who had managed email tatting lists and who ran a data company die of a heart attack a while back. For some reason, the family shut the servers down, then a kajillion people who were buying server space from him had to scramble to get their websites running again.)

*Ron Soman of Pink Pig, still greatly missed

I hope your birthday brought good news about your brother! That would be a good birthday thing, I think. Hope the day was as good as possible, under the circumstances!

Oh God, baby-- I'm so sorry to hear all that! Online friends can mean a whole lot to you... (you mean a whole lot to me:-) so I know how painful that can be. And as for your brother... Goddess... I'm sending you prayers, honey. Lots of prayers.

I'm so sorry, Julie. That's too much for any one person, especially all in one day.
