Pictures.

Of what I've been working on. Finally downloaded the camera. (You can tell they're from the camera instead of my phone because they aren't blurry. Whoops.)

This is the shrug-wrap thingie, where I chucked it when I realized that I didn't have enough yarn for the bindoff:

For all one of you who are curious about how I do gauge swatches, here's the one for the sock:

Yes, I washed it first. And I measured the gauge in three different places and averaged them together.

Here's the start of the sock:

Only took four tries to get it started last night. I don't do Judy's Magic Cast-On often enough to be good at it. But it's freaking brilliant.

And, having finally gotten tired of chasing balls of yarn (or chasing Sekhmet chasing balls of yarn), here's my solution:

It's been in the family a while. My luck, it's actually valuable. (I don't think so; pretty sure it's manufactured.)

Otherwise? Um. I got the latest Vogue Knitting.

Yeah.

I was just realizing that at 62 F outside, I can probably sit in my knitting spot without getting heat rash again!

Nice looking sock, what is the swatch blocked out on? I figured polystyrene, until I spotted the shiny spots...

My fave yarn-management trick is a plastic pop bottle (size scaled to yarn volume -- anything from a 20oz to a 3-liter). Cut 3 sides of a rectangle in it to make an inward-curling door. Put your yarn inside, with the end out through the neck, and let it close: keeps pet hair off even the grabbiest yarn. Also, you can tuck the project inside through the door when you're not actively knitting it.

I use a provisional cast on for half of the sock stitches and then do a short row toe and pick up the stitches and move up the foot. I've tried Judy's (and know it's well loved by many) but it doesn't work as well for me.

I've heard interesting things about the VK already. Haven't seen a copy yet, though.

Please please do a review. This last issue's preview pictures looked particularly awful.

I looked at the Vogue knitting in a bookstore yesterday, and it's bad. I can't wait to see your review . . .

Love the colourway of that sock yarn. And please, what is Judy's magic cast-on? I've never come across it and I'm always keen for new knitting techniques...
