Meet the Goober.
It has been pointed out to me - gently - by several readers that she's not a baby any more. And I know that. I've been boggling over it for about six months now. And while I will always call her Baby from time to time, I thought I should find something different to call her here on the blog. I figured I'd do it on her birthday.
That's today. She's two. (Today is also Einstein's birthday. I have finally found an explanation for the hair.)
Anyway. Back in the day, when I was pregnant, we started calling the baby "Goober". That's an old-fashioned American term for peanut, and at the time, she was about the size of one, and we had no idea of gender, or a name to use, so we started the baby Goober.
Then, when I had her, she wasn't much bigger than a peanut (okay, she was eight pounds, a good-but-average size for a baby) so we kept on calling her Goober.
And she was just so happy and so good and so cute, she needed a cute nickname. (She's about three months old in the photo below, and she's eyeing the cat. Note the "Future Knitter" tee shirt.)
So, now it's official. On the internet. Happy birthday, Goober. I don't know what I did without you.
She is such a doll, I wish you lived closer, our munchkins would have a hay day terrorizing together, I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteHAPPY BIRTHDAY Ba.. I mean Goober!!!
Awwwww. My oldest was a Goober for a long time, too. When his brother joined him, they became Goober & Goofus. Oh, the memories ....
ReplyDeleteLove the pics, and that she shares a day with Einstein. She chose well, wise child, both in a birth date and in parents :-)
Big hugs, Gooby Dooby Doo!
Around here the word goober is a euphemisn for a piece of snot, but happy birthday to the young'un anyway,
ReplyDeleteWell, around here we call her Boogerhead from time to time, when she's being bad. So that works, too. Haha.
ReplyDeleteSo cute! Really nice nickname I think too! Happy birthdag to you Goober! You will become a great knitter too!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to the Goober!!!! Two is so much fun!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, Goober.
ReplyDeleteI ask my Baby Girl who turned 2 on August 16 if she's my baby and she says "no, big gehl".
hey Goober - happy birthday! Where on earth did you get that t-shirt she wore? I love it.
ReplyDeleteShe's adorable and I've loved watching her turn from a baby to a little girl, I mean, Goober.
She's lovely.
Happy birth day to you both! What a sweet baby picture. I so want another of those...
ReplyDeleteWe called my daughter "Peanut" for the longest time, even though she wasn't. ( Another 8lb baby) She's almost three now. And my son, who's 5 months, we mostly call "Booger". Ahem.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, Goober!
Happy Birthday Goober!
ReplyDeleteMy 2 year old thinks her name is "goofball". lol I guess I've called her that too much.
What a sweetie. Goober is a definite endearment. It's a word we use frequently around here especially if someone has done something silly. My oldest daughter was the Guppy (courtesy of my brother), my middle daughter was Bubba(courtesy of the midwife), and my youngest was the Angel Baby. I chose the third time!
ReplyDeleteAww jees...I've had a crap day and now you've gone and made me cry... she's beautiful--thanks for the pictures, and even thanks for the cry:-)
ReplyDeleteHappy B-day, Goober.
Happy B-day, Goober!!
ReplyDeleteJust so she won't feel too bad: My mother was "The Baby" until the day she died (at 86). None of her sisters were left but all the cousins still called her The Baby.
I am now in my fifth decade and still get called Baby by my older sib.
My younger son is 19 and just last week said,"You know, I never agreed to let you call me The Baby on your blog. Could you come up with something else? Anything?"
Happy birthday, Goober!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, L'il Goober! And many, many more. Can't wait 'til you're old enough to knit. I'll bet you're a whiz at it!!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to you both.
ReplyDeleteOne question who likes green the most Goober or you?
Every picture has grren in it and yopur knitting a green sweater for the mil. Even my word verification is green ;-)

Happy B-day Zool!!
ReplyDeleteAwwww, Happy Birthday little Goober!
ReplyDeleteI still slip up and call my 3 1/2 year old "baby," but it's usually when he comes over sniffling and asking me to kiss a boo-boo.
And of course she'll always be your baby no matter how old she gets.
ReplyDeleteMy own baby has finally reached the point where I can't really pick him up any more. He's a "back carry" now.
Happy Birthday Goob!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, Goober!
ReplyDeleteI do have to point out though, that Einstein share's my birthday, which is March 14. However, Goober has Lauren Bacall and Jeff Foxworthy for her special day. She'll be a beauty with a mouth like a trucker.

When I was a kid, I had all kinds of nicknames. Pumpkin pie, angel baby, kate-a-babe...my dad used to call me (and my other two sisters) tow-headed crumb-snatchers because we ate like a pack of ravenous wolves.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I'd like to join the strikke-along. I'm knitting the same thing as my mom (Donna Lee) so it's the Interweave snowflake socks. I figure they're valid because it says something about having a Scandinavian influence in the pattern. Plus, I'm partially Polish, and Poland is near Norway and all those Scandinavian countries, right?
Awww, happy birthday to the Goober! Such a cutie--I love it when they find containers that fit them for a hiding or play place. :)
ReplyDeleteShe two already?! Happy (belated) b-day to the big girl!! Love the bottom pic - it's a classic!
ReplyDeleteWow, I happened upon your blog from Zimmermania, but you have to check out my dd on my blog, she looks quite a bit like your Goober, only she's almost 4.
ReplyDeleteKnit On,
wendy
